BeatFeet Drumming Workshops Celebrates BBC Make A Difference Award for Director

We’re excited to share that Jude from BeatFeet Drumming Workshops has been awarded with a BBC Make A Difference Award alongside Community Dance Practitioner, Janet Rose. Both women co-lead When Women Gather, an organisation in Nottingham providing expressive arts workshops in support of women’s wellbeing.

This recognition celebrates the positive impact of the organisation’s workshops on the wellbeing of Nottingham communities by providing opportunities to participate in expressive arts. Through music, rhythm, and creativity, Jude and Janet have been a driving force in bringing people together, fostering connection, and supporting mental and emotional wellbeing.

When Women Gather: A Space for Creativity and Healing

When Women Gather is based at Clarendon Chambers in the city centre. This organisation provides women with a safe and nurturing space to express themselves through creative arts, offering workshops designed to support healing, empowerment, and personal growth. Both organisations have played a vital role in enhancing the lives of women in the local community by offering a supportive environment for self-expression.

CommuniTree: Celebrating Global Music in Nottingham

In addition to the arts workshops, CommuniTree, a vibrant performing arts venue co-run by the same team, has been making waves in Nottingham’s live music scene. With a focus on folk and showcasing music from around the world, CommuniTree is a hub for cultural exchange, bringing together artists and audiences from all walks of life. The venue regularly hosts live music events that celebrate diversity, creativity, and the unifying power of music.

Hand Drumming Workshops: Connecting Through Rhythm

Every Wednesday evening at CommuniTree, Jude hosts a weekly hand drumming workshop, open to all women. These sessions provide a wonderful opportunity to explore rhythm, meet new people, and experience the joy of creating music in a relaxed and inclusive setting. Whether you’re new to drumming or have been doing it for years, these workshops are a fantastic way to unwind, connect, and feel empowered through rhythm.

If you’re interested in joining the weekly sessions or want to learn more, don’t hesitate to get in touch. It’s a perfect way to engage in music, meet like-minded individuals, and experience the benefits of communal drumming.

A Lasting Impact on Nottingham’s Communities

This BBC Make A Difference Award is a reflection of the hard work and dedication that has gone into making these projects successful. By supporting Nottingham’s communities through arts and culture, BeatFeet, When Women Gather, and CommuniTree are creating lasting connections and offering opportunities for individuals to thrive.

Together, these projects continue to make a positive difference, providing spaces for creativity, healing, and cultural celebration. Stay tuned for more workshops, performances, and community events that will continue to bring people together in Nottingham.
