Drumming Together in Hucknall: Creativity, Connection, and Community

This autumn, BeatFeet had the joy of drumming with a fantastic women’s group in Hucknall, Ashfield - (Your Time Believe, Belong, Become CIC). The room filled with rhythm, laughter, and the wonderful energy that comes when women come together to be creative.

For many, opportunities to make music as adults can feel rare or even intimidating. But once the drums are in the circle and the first beats are played, barriers start to fall away. Drumming is immediate, accessible, and joyful, and you don’t need prior experience to join in. It’s about expression, connection, and being part of something bigger than yourself.

For groups of women, making music together can be especially powerful. It provides:

  • A safe, supportive space to step away from daily pressures and focus on the present moment.

  • A chance to connect with others through rhythm, without the need for words.

  • Confidence and wellbeing boosts that come from trying something new and succeeding together.

  • Creative expression that uplifts and inspires, reminding us all that play and creativity belong to every stage of life.

We’re looking forward to returning to Hucknall in the new year to continue the journey with this inspiring group. Every session reaffirms that creativity is not just about making music - it’s about building community, celebrating diversity, and supporting wellbeing.

Thanks to the group’s Director for inviting Jude over for this session. If you’d like to invite us to work with your group, please get in touch through our Contact Us page - we’d love to hear from you.
